Nikki Jackson and Kim Robinson recently opened Pure a Salon & Boutique, offering hair, nail and waxing services, all under a green umbrella.

The salon offers a line of natural hair care products created by Australia's Kevin Murphy. The partners also carry a full line of Sebastian hair care products including the innovative new Flaunt line.

In addition to beauty services, the boutique offers organic clothing and earth-friendly items by Lolablue including soy candles, bodyscrubs, and hand-crafted soaps. Pure also carries vintage clothing and jewelry.

The salon offers its clients an array of complimentary treats to sample while they receive spa services, such as organic wine, beer, coffee and tea.

Jackson and Robinson opened Pure in February.

"We felt that the Sarasota community was ready for an upscale green salon and that the timing was right," Robinson said.

Pure is at 8784 S. Tamiami Trail in the Sarasota Palms Plaza, just south of Central Sarasota Parkway.

Jasmine McAllister, owner of Jaszy's Jewelry, hopes she has an answer for stylish-but-green women everywhere: fashion with a cause.

McAllister recently unveiled a new Jaszy's Jewelry Web site, www.jaszy.com, complete with an easy to use online catalog that showcases the company's new identity as a wholly socially and environmentally conscious jewelry maker.

McAllister, who designs and hand-crafts all of her original jewelry, began making jewelry in 2003. She uses fair trade 24-karat gold vermeil components, recycled sterling silver, fair trade 14-karat gold-filled findings and fair trade semi-precious gemstone beads.

McAllister hopes to create more awareness through charitable donations to groups such as The Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Earth Share and The Environmental Defense Fund.
